The UIP of Sichuan University took place from July 7 to July 21, 2018 in Chengdu. At the invitation of SCU, Prof. Firk from RWTH Aachen University successfully held a course on "Advanced Wastewater Treatment" for the SCU students. There was a great response to the course. In total, about 60 SCU students enrolled in this course. The students were very impressed by the illustrated German state of the art of advanced wastewater treatment.
On July 16, 2018, the Sino-German WATCH Workshop on "Micro plastic Contamination and Elimination of Micro Pollutants in Wastewater Treatment Plants" was held in the meeting room of the College of Architecture and Environment, SCU. After the welcome opening by the Vice Dean, Prof. Liu, Vice Dean, gave an overview of the traditional and excellent cooperation between SCU and RWTH Aachen University, and then presented perspectives on the bilateral cooperation. Prof. Firk gave a lecture on technical possibilities for the reduction of trace substances in sewage treatment plants. Dr. Zhang from the College of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) presented the "Current situation and disposal of micro-plastic pollution in the freshwater environment in China". In addition to the presentation of the WATCH project - funded by the BMBF - Dr.-Ing. Yao from the ISA of RWTH Aachen University presented the situation about "Micro plastic contamination in surface water environment and the research work in Germany". Scientists from both sides then intensively discussed about these current topics and possibilities of a joint project proposal.
In the afternoon, the German delegation, accompanied by Chinese colleagues, visited the WATCH offices and laboratory on the Huaxi campus of SCU. The delegation was very impressed by the good establishment of the WATCH infrastructure during the first project year.
