Nanjing University – RWTH Aachen University Workshop on Water Pollution & Ecological Safety

From March 25th to 26th 2018, Nanjing University and RWTH Aachen University successfully held a workshop on Water Pollution and Ecological Safety . This workshop was hosted by a new WATCH member – the School of Environment of Nanjing University, under the framework of the BMBF joint project – WATCH aiming to strengthen the collaboration in the field of water pollution control, environmental health, and ecological safety, as well as technology exchange and transfer.

The workshop was chaired by Professor Rong Ji from Nanjing University. Prof. Hollert and Dr. Xiao from the Institute of Environmental Research of RWTH Aachen University presented the application of effect-based tools in seeking for ecotoxicological relevance of micropollutants in European Rivers and effect-directed analysis in ecological risk assessment. Dr. Gang Yao from the Institute of Environmental Engineering (ISA) of RWTH Aachen University and coordinator of the WATCH project, introduced ISA"s research activities and the WATCH research centre as a whole. Dr. Shi Peng, the organizer of the workshop, introduced the School of Environment and the National Engineering Center of Nanjing University, as well as the research outcome and innovation platform. During the workshop, both sides had intensive discussions on academic issues and on applying for joint Sino-German projects.

The delegation visited the Nanjing Innovation Center for Environmental Protection and Jiangsu Guochuang Ecological Toxicology Laboratory, and they had in-depth discussion with the team of the center.
